| So this is why they call us "patients." | Views: 1187 |
I called today to find out what my appointment on Thursday with my Radiation Oncologist will be all about. I learned that it is just for a CAT scan. I also learned that I have an appointment next Friday (nice of them to let me know!) for a radiation verification. The claim is that, at that appointment, nearly TWO WEEKS from now, I will learn when they can fit me in to the radiation schedule. Does this mean I’ll have to wait another two weeks after next Friday to get started? Is this normal? How long is it even safe to wait before starting treatments? Is it possible for one’s head to explode from sheer frustration? (Deep breathing…deep breathing…)

Clearly, someone in that office needs to have their pants set on fire. I suggest choosing randomly…it will heighten the sense of urgency.

By the way…
“Is this normal? How long is it even safe to wait before starting treatments?”
Very good questions to ask your Doctor this morning. I’d like to know the answers myself!
Unfortunately, it seems pretty “normal.” I went in for my CT 3 weeks before. Just think of it as more time for your surgery site to heal…before its zapped!
XOXOStandard of care is 180 days after your surgery to start chemo or radiation.
Hi, Kathy:
Your cancer is a lot like mine except that I’m HER2 positive which makes me more at risk. I had the chemo and luckily had little ill effects from it. But then I wanted the radiation RIGHT NOW! It’s hard to wait because you feel like the cancer is just waiting to get a foot in the door again. I think I started radiation about three weeks after the chemo was finished.
Hang in there; you’re doing great!
